UT7/7600 (WAS Re: in a fog about UT7/2200 : Paul)

2005-01-05 by sandersm@aol.com

Paul, thanks for this post. I am not the original poster, but I am thinking
again of converting my 7600 from UC to UT& inks. Your post, and my efforts
to understand the MIS site, lead to a couple more questions:

1. I've noted your earlier remarks, repeated here, that the UC MK provides
deeper blacks when used on the 4000 and 7600. And I note, here, that you
suggest that the UC MK might be substituted for Eboni in a UT7 set. Does one
leave the UC MK cartridge in the K slot? Are there any problems raised by
sticking with the UC MK in a UT7 set?

2. The MIS page description for the 7600/UT7 workflow suggests that the
"slider" adjustments are an alternative to the curves, for adjusting the tones
printed. Is this correct? Or do the sliders work with the curves? This
leads to my third question:

3. I use Photoshop Elements 3.0 as my image editor. Is the MIS workflow
for the 7600/UT7 compatible with Elements to the extent it relies on curves?

4. I was intrigued by your remark that one ought not install the UT Sepia
toner ink if not planning to print in sepia. I've used the C84 UT EZ warm
inkset, and cannot imagine ever wanting a print warmer than what that inkset
provides, so no, I have no need of Sepia printing capability. Question: Can
the Sepia slot be converted to take a PK cartridge? Or a GLOP cartridge? and
if so, how would one control it?

5. Last question (I promise) (at least for now): How does one print
glossy media with the Epson driver on the 7600 when the MK ink is installed? I
know that you have come up with a solution that does not rely on K ink to get
good deep blacks. How is this set up and controlled?

I know these are subjects that have been touched upon over the past months --
I apologize if I am asking you to cover old ground again.

Best wishes,

Sanders McNew.
