Been there, tried that ...

It's fantastic for color.

You'll save a lot of money by picking up an Epson C86 + UT EZ inks rather
than struggling with all the options, only to get a print that looks fine
by your computer, horrible in your living room.

It would be a pity to take those color inks out when they do so well. Even
if you find some carbon inks or equivalents for the R800, I find it
difficult to imagine that the result would be better than the C86/MIS.

I never tried black-only with it.
