How does one scan the linearization file? I've already printed it
out, and I assume I"d want  as straight a scan as possible, set black
point as #26, white 
point to #1 or the white of the  paper, with no auto anything that
could affect the contrast 
curve, then save as tiff.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
