There is information on print previewing or soft proofing in QTR at 
http://harrington.com/QuadToneRIP.html#softproof.

What I do when I'm in an experimental mood is print small images at 
different settings in different positions on the same piece of paper 
(labelling them, of course) so I can see not only how the individual 
picture looks but also how it looks in comparison with others.
