Digital BW, The Print

hi,
I read a lot of messages of this forum, and you are really great. I'm
an experienced photographer and I know quite good the dark room, but
i'm a newby and i'm learning a lot about digital printing. 
I would like tu buy a printer and i woud like some suggestion. I love
traditional bw film, but whit my 20d I make some color picture
too. I'm a lover of old tecnics and I need big negativs (that now I
produce traditionally or whit a pine hole).
To avoid metamerism and so on I think I will print digital negatives
also for traditional silver print.
which printer do you suggest for such a job? a3 or a4 is the same for me.
I also would like to try direct bw printing, maybe whit a second
printer. which combination do you suggest for ink, printer, and
software?
I'm still a student than I'can not buy something really expensive, but
I have a quite good budget in this moment.
