Steve, I'm new to QTR as well, but my understanding is that the two curves can be blended to create intermediate tones: eg - a warm curve in curve 1, and a cool curve in curve 2. Or a sepia curve in curve 1, and a neutral curve in curve 2, etc. Lower down in the print dialog you will see an option for how much of each curve to use in the blend: eg - curve 1=25%, and curve 2=75% for a slighty warmer print.
