Are you sure?

If the printhead data is only one bit, how does the printer address
the variable dot size capability of the piezo head?

Last time I looked, years ago, the ESCP commands used 2 bit data when
the printer was in variable dot size mode.  This would be data into
the printer from the driver, not into the driver from the application.
