Re: [Digital BW] Adobe Camera raw and Photo Shop CS

Steve, try RSE--its free and is gradually becoming my RAW converter of choice (I have used all the RAW converters over the years except Bibble). For color--they are still a bit 'off', but I use Capture One with custom camera profiles there and have used the RSE parameters to get closer to that (be careful of the sharpening/detail settings). I also think (though its possible you do no color shooting) that Magne Nilsen will create color profile for RSE when they offer the 'for sale' version. BTW, the RSE version will always be 'free'---but they will offer one with a lot of options in the future for a 'relatively' (their words) reasonable price. The developer was the major developer of Capture One--and I much prefer it over ACR for color. My workflow is good---it batches without having to play around with an action or script. I understand that PSCS2 allows this also, but I can't see anything that lures me to upgrade this time. RSE will convert Rebel XT (and I expect that Canon's own DPP will also--as well as Breezebrowser which uses CAnon's SDK).

Forgot to mention that these are both Windows only. If you are on a Mac, try Canon's DPP (available on their site)--its a bit clunky but much better than their software in the past.

Unfortunately while it may not make you happy it would not be a "scam".
It's not as though they are taking anything away from you. Simply, in order
to get the extended capability (read the ability to use ACR with the XT),
you need to have the latest version. That's just life. If they didn't
charge (and people didn't pay) for additional functionality you can be
assured it would not be developed....I hope for your sake that it is not the
case but you can't be up-in-arms if it is.
