*Smile*--not true.  RAWShooters Essential is free and very good (color is still a bit off though).  This is part of their marketing strategy and they will offer a version with a lot more options in the future but the RSE version will always be 'free'.  I've used all the RAW converters for CAnon over the years except Bibble and can recommend this one--the developer was the main developer of Capture One--which IS my converter of choice now with custom camera profiles.  For color (and workflow) I prefer it over ACR.  I understand that PSCS2 offers batch conversion---but I don't find much else to entice me to buy an upgrade this time.
