RE: [Digital BW] replacing cartridges on 1280

2005-06-26 by Paul Roark

Milt,

I didn't see an answer to this, so I'll take a shot.

The new clear carts from MIS have poppet valves the should work fine when
taken in and out. I rinse the outlets with a syringe of water when taken
out just to make sure ink does not dry and then get into the printer inlet.
I then tape the outlets shut. I don't like the rivets MIS sells to plug the
outlets.

If you are switching between dye and MIS inks that have the Eboni black ink,
I'd also rinse the parking pads every time I installed the Eboni to be sure
the dye does not react with Eboni and cause clogging problems. To do this,
turn the printer off, open the lid and look at the left inside of the
printer. The big gear, if rotated toward you, releases the peg that holds
the head to the right. Then you can move the head to the left and, perhaps
with the help of a flashlight, clearly see the black sponge parking pad that
needs to be rinsed off. I use a syringe with Windex in it to do this. A
couple of wipes with a paper towel between rinses wouldn't hurt either.
When this has been done, move the head and gear back the way they were.

I hope this works OK for your uses.
