I don't think there is any printer that can do excellent color and B&W aside from the 2400 (and its larger versions) without switching inks. The 2200 with QTR can do a good job and would be the second best choice if ink switching is out of the question. The color inksets really have trouble with B&W if they don't have at least one gray ink in addition to the black ink. Color tints, cross-overs, metamerism, etc. just can't be avoided without a gray ink.
