Designed for film these systems have not made the transition to exposing for the linear nature of a chip. They still meter for a "middle grey" - not necessarily 18% but still a middle grey of some sort. The manufacturers still have a leg in either camp. Their metering is film centric while the capture plane is digital. The sooner the two are properly aligned the better.
