Re: [Digital BW] MIS cartridges - prefilled vs do-it-yourself

2005-09-06 by Edward Wiseman

Hi Ben..

First of all, you shouldn't need the "bottom fill" adapter after your
first fill-up as it is used to get rid of air from the cartridge port where
it eventually meets the nozzle head (..unless you accidently drain your
cartridges dry!)..I just rinse, dry and re-use the same needle and syringe,
carfully rinsing and drying between filling each color..I keep a beaker of
warm eater in the sink from which I draw several fills and ejects to purge
the previous color ..I take the syringe apart and remove any water droplets
with a clean lintless paper towel, and then I blow through the "needle" with
a couple of blasts of canned air..Sounds like alot to do, but it goes VERY
fast...Much faster and easier than it is to describe..
BTW, it's been 6 months and NO PROBLEMS!..

I filled some of those spongeless carts with UT2 pigments yesterday.
It was a little messy, but overall the procedure was pretty manageable.
The only tricky thing, IMHO, is figuring out how to keep track of
the syringes and needles and bottom-fill adaptors for next time.
You might want to buy labelable bags, or a segmented box, or something
like that.
