I haven't tried the clear cartridges. When I tried the older version all I
got was a horrible mess of ink everywhere except in the cartridge.

I have been using MIS cartridges for my Epson 1280 printer
(ARC-T009-UT2 and - T007-UTK). But I am about to run out and order a
new supply. I have read much about their new refillable clear
spongeless cartridges. Some of that has been less than positive. Thus,
I ask whether I should continue using their filled cartridges or order
a supply of refillable spongeless cartridges, ink, etc. I'd appreciate
thoughts on this.

Thank you

I just filled a set of the MIS spongeless carts for a 1280 with MIS
Pigment Color inks and found it quite easy. In an hour and a half I
went from unpacking the materials to filling the carts to inspecting
the first 8x10 test print. Sure beat the pants off the CIS system I
was farting around with for months and never actually got to work all
that well.

With the spongeless carts, I ran two cleaning cycles and printed a
small purge print, resulting in a perfect nozzle check and great test
print.

Though there was one comment that there may be sealing issues with
these, I haven't noticed any problems. I'd recommend this method.

Hope this helps.
  Kurt

Hi Ben..

First of all, you shouldn't need the "bottom fill" adapter after your
first fill-up as it is used to get rid of air from the cartridge port where
it eventually meets the nozzle head (..unless you accidently drain your
cartridges dry!)..I just rinse, dry and re-use the same needle and syringe,
carfully rinsing and drying between filling each color..I keep a beaker of
warm eater in the sink from which I draw several fills and ejects to purge
the previous color ..I take the syringe apart and remove any water droplets
with a clean lintless paper towel, and then I blow through the "needle" with
a couple of blasts of canned air..Sounds like alot to do, but it goes VERY
fast...Much faster and easier than it is to describe..
BTW, it's been 6 months and NO PROBLEMS!..

I filled some of those spongeless carts with UT2 pigments yesterday.
It was a little messy, but overall the procedure was pretty manageable.
The only tricky thing, IMHO, is figuring out how to keep track of
the syringes and needles and bottom-fill adaptors for next time.
You might want to buy labelable bags, or a segmented box, or something
like that.

Additionally, the syringes will eventually get very stiff. To put this off
as long as possible, you can use a bit of silicone spray on the rubber. I
spray a little on a folded paper towel (vent fan going) and just roll the
edge of the rubber plunger across the dampened paper towel before putting
the cleaned syringes back together and into a zip lock for storage.

Re: [Digital BW] MIS cartridges - prefilled vs do-it-yourself

2005-09-06 by Nick H. Nugent

Since I did so much refilling I ended up buying a high quality 20cc
Popper Micro-Mate reusable glass syringe. The only thing you have to
watch out for is the slippery plunger. When there is ink in the
syringe I lock the plunger using the right hand forefinger to wedge
between it and the barrel. It's best to practice with plain water.
Once you get the hang of it it's an indispensable tool in refilling.
