I don't know what the relative reliability of the 1280 is compared to other
printers.  I suspect printers made for pigments are more reliable, if for no
other reason than they seem to run small cleaning cycles more frequently.
That may well be the only difference.

In my view, one of the big problems with the 1280 was the carts that
preceded the new spongeless ones.

As to a 13" equivalent of the C86, there simply is none.  The cheapest 13"
pigment printer is a used 2000P.  Arguably my most reliable printer is my
7500 (now back in use since my 7600 crashed).  It may be that a good used or
refurbished 2000P would be a potential choice.  I have a Readme file on my
website regarding this setup.
