Only file numbers are sent to QTR - no profile.  A colour RGB image is
converted (not in the profile sense) to greyscale using the default R%, G%
and B% (Roy can tell us what these are if need be).  So an RGB image will
still print ok and in fact a grey RGB image where R=G=B is no different from
sending a greyscale - the same file numbers are still processed.  The issue
here has nothing to do with RGB vs greyscale and nothing to do with
profiles.  It would appear to be a dither, print head alignment or even a
banding issue...
