StudioPrint has allowed for 6 partitioned blacks for a while now. Before there were the K7s from IJM some were mixing their own dilitutions of 6 to use with StudioPrint. Tom was pretty much spearheading those experiements and talking to Ergosoft. K7s weren't out yet, they came after along with Ergosoft's anounced intention of moving up to 7 supported Ks. I think Tom still mixes his own hues and dilutions from the Piezotone sets and uses a 6 ink printer, hence Hextones...
