[Digital BW] Re: anyone thinking of buying an Epson 1280 photo printer...look here

2005-12-22 by djon43

ARE there "pigmented inks" from third parties for the 1280? I
thought they were all non-pigment dyes...?

For B&W is MIS the best bet, beauty-wise? Is MIS as reliable as
Epson inks for the 1280?

I came to the party late..my first printer was my 2200 (which has
printed a few hundred images without a hiccup, sometimes without
respectful turning-off for weeks at a time)....I've only used OEM
pigments because I wanted total reliability... until some recent
projects, most of my work has been color...

...because I got a 2200 first, I never paid attention to the 1280...
but I may pick up a "new old stock" 1280 as a $100 bargain, for B&W
only...

Is a new-condition 1280 capable of B&W work with QTR to rival 2200
on paper such as Entrada? What's your opinion?

From commentary I have the impression that 1280 is fine on soft
papers, perhaps including Entrada...but I've not actually seen
prints that were 1280 for sure....

IMO the name of the game is photography and prints, it's not
bragging rights related to the hottest technical specs...

making it a dedicated b/w printer, but 'found' QTR instead). I have

virtually NO problems--with pigmented inks, but its meant to use
them.
