Re: STERLING PAPERS FOR B&W? (Mfg: BreathingColor)

2006-02-10 by Shilesh Jani

AK,

I have tried the 210 gsm version of Stering Rag (Dmax = 1.54), and
Stering PLATINUM rag (Dmax = 1.64) on a 4000 with MK ink. The Dmax
were measured with QTR ink limit calibration mode. The papers have a
nice smooth and warm surface, somewhat similar to Epson Ultra Smooth
Fine Art. But note the low Dmax on the older regular paper. The newer
PLATINUM version Dmax is much better, at least on the trail roll I
received, which was labelled "Prototype OBA Free". So nothing to
write home about in Dmax, but then what paper is with MK ink?

It writes really well, even with a hard, sharp pencil. So seems to
have well-adhered coating.

Right now you can get the 24" x 66 feet PLATINUM paper for $40, as
a "trial" roll, which is a steal compared to USFA at $150 for 24" x
50 feet (Atlex.Com).

I can't speak for long-term quality and consistency of the paper.

Shilesh
