Digital BW, The Print

Roughly in the 100+ mb range? I'm new to scanning negs for big prints, 
e.g., 16x20, poss. bigger, so my estimate may be off by a little to a 
lot. When a scanner is working, does it require the computer to work 
full throttle and is there a limit to how much cpu & ram a scanner 
needs use to work at its peak?
