The editor in Front page can be used independently of the other
features.  I've been using that way for years, as it frees you from
the diabolical clutches of the parts that want to "manage" your web
site for you.  

I also tried other WYSIWYG editors and still kept coming back the the
FP one, as it seemed to have the best balance of features, interface
and behavior.
