RE: [Digital BW] RE: Anyone using digital negatives to make Platinum prints?

2006-04-10 by Eric Neilsen

David, You really need to make negatives that fit your process; not just
platinum/palladium but your platinum/palladium. There are many variables
that can come into play. Mark Nelson sells an ebook on it. Dan Burkholder
has wonderful methods. I have made them using an Epson 7000 and Cones' Sepia
ink set on UCF from Photo Warehouse. I am now running new curves for the
4800 and K3 inks on Pictorico. If you don't know platinum/palladium
printing, I would advise you to get your files prepared to print at 360 dpi
grayscale images as you would like them to look and take them with you. I am
sure that you'll be able to get output there and your files will be already
set with the exception of invert and curves.

You can do colorized negs, B&W negs, or I am using the advanced B&W and
making a PYRO looking neg.

Your negs that you use in the platinum class may or may not work when you
get home. The variables may like light source, chemicals, developer, etc
might mean that you'll need to make new negs. However, you should learn
enough to know how when you get there.
