Digital BW, The Print

Hello all.

I moved into the digital darkroom a few months ago and I've learned a 
lot from this and related lists. I now have  a question and hope that 
somebody may advise me. Is there special ways to "proofread" a 
picture without printing it on expensive papers. Is there okay to 
print it on cheaper paper and if so what are the things one should 
keep in mind. I usually make print on EAM papers with a 1290 printer.
