Steve, >I have an old 1160 lying around, and some UT2 ink ... > What I am interested in is the similarity between UT and UT2, ... UT-C = UT2-M (standard dark carbon midtone). The Eboni black is the same in both. At the light end, the inks are different. UT(1) toner (Y-position in the 1160) was very light so that it could be used in the old 3000. The UT2 light toner (LC) could, however, probably be used and look about as smooth as it did in the 1280/90. The 1160 has a modern variable dot at least for the midtone inks. You'd need to make new curves. The light carbon is also different. Again, the UT1 inkset used a very light carbon, but the UT2 light carbon (LM) could be used (with new curves). > I found the UT2 in the 1290 produced very good > results, but was very unreliable (clogs all over the place)... It's the old 1280/90 mystery. Some work great for years, others not. I think they must have used a somewhat different screen in the heads than the other printers. The 1280/90 seems to be the only printer that exhibits this characteristic. >I now use a c86 with a combination of EZN and EZW and an r220 and UT3D >currently with great success, in terms of result quality, >controllability and reliability. We really need a 13" printer like the old 1280 to fill the gap in affordable, reliable printing. I'm actually considering getting one and seeing if I can figure out how to keep the thing running right. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
