Whether or not this helps - the batches numbers I've seen referred to in 
this thread cover manufacturing over a period of several months. They 
may have changed their batch numbering system since I left Ilford 20 
years ago - but I suspect not!!! The ones starting with 25 are the 
oldest - 28 are the newest. Are the newer batch numbers the ones 
accepting the ink better?
