Hi Tyler:

Thanks for responding. I don't know what you're referring to when you say
it's the "wrong"
cart; both the gloss and matte black ink carts go in the same slot--just one
*or* the other.
My gloss black cart is almost used up and I was hoping to simply remove the
gloss black
and insert the new matte cart in its place. Normally I would go through the
black ink
switching routine and lose a lot of all 8 inks, but maybe I can just slap
the matte black in
there and print away, knowing that eventually the K line would eventually be
flushed
through with all MK ink. Just a thought, and I'm open to any more comments
on potential
problems with doing this.

Thanks again!

What Tyler is saying is what your machine is going to tell you. Using the
procedure you describe, you will get a red ink light with "WRONG CART" on the
LCD.
The 4000 and X600 printers had a work-around called the South African
switch, but someone has yet to come up with one for the x800 series of printers. I
wound up getting a second 4800 as my work-around.
