The dealer here in No. California (Palo Alto) tells me that Epson now supplies 3 dummy carts that when inserted make the machine only purge the black ink you're swapping, at a cost of pennies instead of flushing the whole printer for dollars! Now is this shop "blowing smoke" or is this something that no one on this discussion board knows about or bothers with??? Thanks, Alan Yes, there is a "Black Ink Conversion Kit" that comes with the 4800. In it, you get 3 cartridges for draining the following inks: Cyan Magenta and Yellow (along with the heavier draining of the black ink in the machine). The process takes about 10 minutes, and requires that you lift and lower the ink release lever several times as the machine purges the inks from the lines. I don't know how much ink loss is involved, but I did it once, and the maintenance tank became quite wet. This procedure purges the K line so that you are ready to print with the new ink. I personally would not want to do this on a regular basis, and, given the cost of inks, when I found another new 4800 on Ebay for $1350. I jumped on it. A set of carts is almost half that. The convenience is priceless. Richard (Brooklyn) ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.
