Re: [Digital BW] Help me set up B&W digital printing, please

Hi Mitch:
You've come to the right place! I'm a mere beginner, but there are some very
helpful experts who monitor the group regularly and will probably come forth
soon. I can point you to a couple of those experts now:
Roy Harrington, who does the QuadTone RIP (QTR) has just released a new
version at:
http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/ReleaseNotes2.5.1.txt
Unfortunately, he says he will be away much of April, so he may not be very
accessible for a while.
Clayton Jones has a great website with tutorials discussing methods and
materials at:
http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm
Tyler Boley and many others in the expert category will also be chiming in,
so start checking this site regularly and best of luck!
Bert

Subject: [Digital BW] Help me set up B&W digital printing, please

I have been photographing for 40+ years, 30 years professionally, with
traditional
equipment--35mm - 4X5. I am 57 years old, self taught and a slow learner.
I have to learn
how to print my black and white negatives digitally. We live on an island
in Maine with
sensitive aquafers.....no longer able to use my traditional darkroom. I
have invested in Macs
and Epson printers andd currently print most color work on an Epson 7600. I
bought an
Epson 7000 used hoping to use it to make black and white prints.

There is soooo much stuff out there I don't know where to turn for a good
basic introduction
re how to set all this up. I have an R2400 also-- think I read somewhere
that it was a good
printer for B&W.

I have also been told that a Harrington Quad tone RIP is a good system that
isn't too hard for
an old fart to learn.

Greatly appreciate any good advice. Can't afford to get out of the business
right now with two
girls in college and lots of bills.

thanks,

mitch
