You could use it for both color and bw, although some films will benefit more than others. All curly films will benefit, though, because they'll be held very flat. You can try mounting negatives below the glass with tape but no fluid, but you will probably get Newton's rings. You can use anti-Newton glass (or what's cheaper Anti-glare picture framing glass). Both of these have a texture that minimizes the rings. Depending on your scanner, though, the texture might show up in your scans. -Peter
