Digital BW, The Print

hello all,
  I just ordered the three inks from MIS to use with the Epson R1800. I was told that I had to use the OEM inks with the 1800 first to get it up and running (it is new) then switch to the MIS inks, purge out the old GO and black inks, then I will be ready to print.
   
  Is this accurate information? It seems like a waste of ink or is the waste neglible.
   
  This is my first of many questions, but I will read all the links, files etc before I ask.
