RE: [Digital BW] paper bases- rant

2008-02-05 by Eric Neilsen

I have no idea what you are talking about with the OT jokes here, but I do
get the paper blues man. Has the industry pushed it on consumer or is it a
reaction to consumer demand? Bill was mentioning the need not to compare Ink
jet to silver gelatin or PT/PD prints? Why not? That is where most of us
have come from spare a few that never knew the joy. This is the new toy in
the image box. I tried very hard lately to get across to some very digitally
minded soles that there still are a few of us that have working darkrooms. I
live in both worlds, but I think neither is as strong as it could be. Some
very nice silver gelatin papers and films have just gone away and soon some
nice ink jet papers will too, only to be replaced by the next generation of
papers. It will be a few years yet before you can walk out the door today
and know that when you walk in the studio tomorrow your favorite paper is
still available. And that your ink set that you spent hours upon hours
testing and tweaking is still flowing through your printer. Could it just be
another way to get you to have more stuff? ( see link below)

Are you talking Sprint Brightener? I didn't hear of Spring? Or was that a
soap : )
