Walker, I'd be curious to know if happened to see a difference in print quality with the newer Epson 4800 driver? You'll notice that the new driver 6.XX has the same interface look that the 3800 driver has. The old settings cannot be brought forward into the new driver. New driver new internal ink limits? Needing new profiles? Have you run any tests or seen any problems? I admit to being in a bit of a hurry the other day and rather than have my system hang and require a reboot several times to confirm that I needed to download a new driver, I followed the advice of the screen and downloaded the new driver so Qimage would begin working again. Before I did that I backed up my current saved settings; Didn't matter though as Epson has a new format for the presets and I could not import my old ones. After reloading the old driver on my laptop that somehow got updated over the network and importing the ABW setting that I had was I able to start printing again. Those numbers produced images of substantially less ink. I'll be checking as the week goes along but for now my fires are cooking other pots. End of next week I'll be running more tests. So, I think that your system is a great idea but you may need to break them into two groups, older driver and those that are using the newer driver. I charge $450 for one! ;-) But seriously, I don't want to step on toes if people are making money around the profile thing. I've seen an s-load of bad prints from my clients who are doing ABW and not color-managing. I end up giving them a gray-ramp and teaching them how to print the target and building them a profile all just so I don't have to mess with bad proofs constantly. In the long run it would be easier for me to just point them to a website and say, follow the instructions. I figure it would be easier for all of us. It's really fast to build ABW profiles so it wouldn't take much of my time. In the long run, I want color managed ABW to become part of the printing culture just like ICC profiles are with color printing. So I'm trying to spread it big-time so it becomes common practice among not only technical people but every-day photographers that use ABW. I've had really good results with ABW ICCs. I figure they could be spread around a bit. Now I'm going to bed. I will wait for more feed-back before I start on something like this. all the best, Walker [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
