How Match decides on luminances has always been a bit of a mystery to me; but
I don't give advice on competing products, it would not be fair to them.
Globally: If you use the laptop and the desktop side by side, and both will
reach the luminance you desire, set them both the same. If your laptop wanders
the globe, and gets used in uncontrolled environments (like mine) set it
nearly as high as it will go... and dim it on those rare occasions when you are in
reasonable lighting. This violates a couple theoretical principles, but is a
better all-round solution than anything else I've tried, and is quite
reasonable in practice.
