Scott, The word from MIS is that the refill procedures do not work for the 1400. They'll look into it. > What about the 'cheapie' CIS unit sold on e-Bay? I have 2 of the cheap SuperJetUSA units running -- just fine as a matter of fact. The instructions are a bit minimal, but it's probably fairly obvious how to prime the system by holding the cart upside down and use a syringe with a modified bottom fill adapter on it or other fitting. Just pull the air out and let the ink fill the cart from the filled ink tank. The ink level appears to be somewhat critical. I put spacers under the tank to be sure the ink level is not below the head (resulting in a reverse syphon that pulls air into the system). At this time I'm not at a position to recommend any glossy printing options, but I have MIS color pigs with Eboni in a 260 and it makes a very nice every-day printer. The MIS colors did not profile well with my color profiling software, so I just made a curves layer that does a reasonable job and is easy to use. That approach would make a very good casual color + very good B&W matte printing solution. I'll take a look at B&W solutions that can do matte and glossy. It's too early so see if glop is also appropriate. In light of my feeling that a cheap eBay CIS may be the best way to use Epson desktop printers with third party inks, I'll be looking at a system that can do matte and glossy without having to change inks.
