Re: Glossy papers

2008-05-10 by zonepeter

Arthur,

I would start with the new Baryta coated papers. My personal favorite
is the Ilford Gold Fiber Silk. It is slightly warm tone, very smooth
and not too much gloss. The Harmon Gloss is whiter and too glossy for
my taste. Another paper I have had good luck iwht is the Innova
Fibepeint Satin (semi matte). It has a bit more texture and less gloss
but is also a wonderful paper. Whiteness is between the other 2.

I really like the extra Dmax of these papers and the dynamic range it
allows, although lately I have been wondering if I shouldn't wander
back to the matte papers for the depth and 3 demensionality they
provide. Oh well, its always something.

Anyway, the Ilford is much cheaper than the others, so it might be a
good place to start.

Peter
