I'm sure the new ones are an improvement, and the service bureau guys
on this forum and the wide format forum know a lot more about them than
I do. For my B&W needs, I doubt the improvments are all that
significant. The drop size has not changed significantly since the
7600. For B&W, we don't need the extra inks, and for an individual
photographer the speed increases are probably not that important.

I'm still using an old 7500. That old non-variable, relatively large
droplet printer does quite a good job with Eboni-6. But it really
shows the dots with the Y-K only approach that I'd now rather use. I
actually do have a 22x28 Y-K only print that I'm going to frame and put
in the gallery just to see if anyone notices, but I can't really
recommend the old 7500-7000 for the Y-K approach.

If I needed to buy a 24" printer today, I'd probably go for a good 7600
if I could find one. Then I would use the Eb6 4Y3K setup, but I'd only
print 16x20 and up with it. I've put some information about my 2200
tests of the approach at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/K2-Eb6-
4Y3K.pdf

What'll really get my attention is a 1.5 pl 24" printer.
