Some have had luck cleaning the rollers with either commercially made 
cleaning papers or a cheap matte paper with Windex sprayed across the 
middle.  The feed on these printers seems to be not only related to 
the model but also whether you happened to get a good one or not.

I refill them when the light comes on.  The MIS 3MK carts are 
refillable.  Bulk Eboni is the most economical printing I'm aware of.

I've had several.  Some last a long time, others not.  They're cheap 
and worth buying when one crashes.  I just had to get a new one also.

A printer that is nearly impossible to feed takes the fun out of 
this.  So, if it does not clean up, I'd probably dump the 1800.  But 
do try to clean those rollers first.  The 1800 3MK system is still 
very good when the 1800 (and carts) are working as they should.  Most 
of my frustration with it has been leaky carts (about 1/3 of them, it 
seems) and problems with non-3MK workflows.  Good 3MK carts and color 
or clear in the other spots is still a viable workflow.  Beyond that, 
it's a crap shoot.
