A lot of it depends on what paper is selected.  I use VFA, for example, and when I choose that a msgbox pops up and says this paper must use Manual Roll, and it changes it to that setting.  I say OK and then immediately change it back to Sheet, and it works fine.  I never use the back feeder, even on heavier papers.  With a tiny bit of pressure a nano second after it begins to feed, the top feeder will take anything (mine does, anyway).

If these settings are saved you don't have to got through that dance.  Just choosed the saved setting first time in and it's set for the rest of the session.
