2400 help

2400 help

2009-05-21 by Tyler Boley

I've been trying to help a friend get his 2400 going. The degree of complication has reached the level of absurdity.
All we want to do is be able to use the fine art paper media settings.
So far, it looks as though they are only available when the front loader is selected in page setup?
Anyone know if this is the case?
So then, when a sheet is in fact loaded in front (the one and only time we got that to work), and Manual- front, is selected as source in page setup, we still go a settings error, claiming one or the other weas set to roll.
Surely this should be easier than this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The newer desktops have become remarkably user unfriendly with lots of gotchas...
Thanks,
Tyler

When you say 'front' do you really mean 'top?

nope, seems to be front, insist on it in fact. Not the same as the standard top feed path with the 2400.

I'm hoping someone more advanced than me will answer soon, but when I
go to my 'page setup' from the Photoshop Menu (I'm Mac 0S 10.5) I do
not even see an option for where the paper will come out. I just see
Settings: Page attributes
Format For: here is where you pick your printer: Stylus Photo R2400
Paper Size: US letter in my case
orientation: vertical or horizontal
Scale 100%

and that is it for that page

I've used the 2400 with a PC for a few years. In general, to use most papers, they are fed in the front feed and in "source" you indicate "sheet". The only paper I have used that requires the rear feeder is Velvet Fine Art which changes the setting to "manual roll", even though its a sheet. This is definitely counterintuitive. If you want to feed a heavy sheet through the front roller, you can override the program by hitting "ignore" when it says to use "manual roll". Don't blame me, I'm just a user.

Thanks Evan. After talking to a few more users it seems most are using rear roll feed, even though they are printing on sheets.
Now all I have to figure out is where my dpi settings went.
I don't know why they keep changing these things with every product release, and using their own made up cryptic setting names.. PhotoRPM?, come ON man! Nascar here we come.
You can bet in next year's models it'll be gone and called something else.
Wow, all day to get a new desktop Epson going, not a good sign. and I'm supposed to know what I'm doing...

Hello Tyler,

> Thanks Evan. After talking to a few more users it seems most are using rear roll feed, even though they are printing on sheets.

A lot of it depends on what paper is selected. I use VFA, for example, and when I choose that a msgbox pops up and says this paper must use Manual Roll, and it changes it to that setting. I say OK and then immediately change it back to Sheet, and it works fine. I never use the back feeder, even on heavier papers. With a tiny bit of pressure a nano second after it begins to feed, the top feeder will take anything (mine does, anyway).

If these settings are saved you don't have to got through that dance. Just choosed the saved setting first time in and it's set for the rest of the session.

Regards,
Clayton

No, the front sheet feeder is for very thick board. The feeder for fine art
papers is the extra clip-on feeder that clips on the rear of the printer
instead of the roll feeder (behind the normal sheet feeder). Most people
forget it's there in the box. You hand-feed the fine art papers into this
rear feeder one at a time. Details on page 18 of the Users Guide.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
