It is a typical PKN -- neutralized PK. It has a good dmax on glossy paper, but on matte paper it runs out of steam at about density 1.4. > - How does it compare to MIS Photo Black or should it be compared to MIS Ebony ? What about the tone of the ink? It's about like the MIS PKN that is used in UT14-C. The MIS UT14-C is cooler, however. Since UT14-C was intended as a toner, it's a bit cooler than I'd like as a PKN. > - Is HP-PK available only in cartridges? If so, it would mean that it has to be transferred somehow to an Epson 1400 cart? You'll have to load you own. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/HP-PK.pdf > > Unless things have changed, BO printing with the Epson 1400 calls for QTR. Would you be using a PK or MK profile or a profile of your own? I use QTR for this. Profiling BO in QTR is very simple. In addition to various MK BO curves you could copy, you can also just call the HP PK a gray ink -- the only one, no matter what it's position is. A BO curve will be generated that you can linearize as usual. If you're not in a position to linearize in QTR, then download one of my profiles from http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/1400-Eb5-Profiles.zip (These relate to an inkset I'll use at the workshop for demonstration purposes -- see the draft PDF at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eb6-PKN.pdf) Paul www.PaulRoark.com
