I have tried some of those pop-up killers. I think the one i used 
was at http://www.panicware.com. It seemed to install many 
components, and seemed to be very intrusive into my system. I 
had hoped it would be a simple thing to kill those things, but it 
appeared from that software that it was not.

I would suggest not spending a lot of energy trying to combat 
these things. I'd rather put my energy finding a better solution. 
Like another person who posted, my entire opinion of Yahoo has 
changed of late; I used to respect and admire them as a 
company, but lately they've seemed to drop to a new low. I would 
hope that them (and their advertisers) hearing this might have an 
impact, but I'm sure someone's already run the numbers, and 
the complainers like us are in the minority.

I'd certainly be willing to anty up money to kill the ads, but after 
much searching, they seem to not offer that option.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
