Bernd,

You mentioned a ink spill that occured during your installation of 
the CIS. Did any ink get onto the chips and/or onto the contact point 
that connect the chip to the printer's electronic?

The inks are carbon based and carbon is very nice conductor. If there 
is carbon in the printer side of the electronics you may have short 
circuit. You might try cleaning this are with some spray electrical 
contact cleaner. Something that you would fine in an electronics or 
computer store that sold elecronic components.

You also might be able to have Epson repair it.

Just some thoughts that might be of help.
