I am thinking of converting my 7800 to mono. I have been using a 2100 with Paul Roark's eboni 6 and MIS UT 7. I am wondering whether to get refillable carts and go with UT7+PK or try eboni 6 (or perhaps use HP ink). Is it safe to use eboni 6 in a 7800 without constantly agitating the carts? Would UT7 be safer? Thanks, Mark

Would UT7 be safer? I would not use Eboni-6 or any blended B&W inkset in a wide format printer without agitating the carts. See page 4 of http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/4K+.pdf When inks are composed of more than a single pigment type, keeping the tones from shifting is very tricky. Eboni-6 is not the only B&W inkset that ought to be agitated in wide format printers. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Thanks, Paul. I guess I am worried about 2 things regarding agitation. First of all what happens in the lines? Does pigment settle in the lines requiring power cleaning cycles and so on. I don't mind agitating the carts if that is necessary. Second if you are away for several days and not able to run the printer is it better to flush the printer and recharge when you get back? Actually it's OK. I think your useful document has answered the questions I have. The autoprint programme looks like the way to go with eboni based ink. I tested for that in the 7800 by letting the printer sit for 5 weeks and then immediately printing a test strip after turning the printer on. I graphed the Lab L of that QTR test print. I've posted it at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Carb6-7800-5week-QTR.jpg I think this is close enough. >Does pigment settle in the lines requiring power cleaning cycles and so on. I simply agitate the carts, turn on the printer, do a nozzle check, and, aside from an occasional Eboni K gap that needs a clean or a Windex soak, I get on with printing. > Second if you are away for several days and not able to run the printer is it better to flush the printer and recharge when you get back? I ignore a several day sit entirely. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
