WorkForce 1100 MIS "EZ" setup

WorkForce 1100 MIS "EZ" setup

2010-12-30 by Paul

This year I'll be setting up an Epson WorkForce 1100 printer with various "EZ" types of inksets. These will include the MIS glossy and carbon inks, including one neutralized, glossy blend and Eboni-6/Carbon-6. (Printer is on loan from MIS, at my suggestion.)

The dyes do not work well on the WorkForce series from what I can see.

So far it looks like the WF 1100 will be an excellent matte paper, carbon pigment printer and a good glossy printer. (Hmm, just enough to separate the markets a bit.)

At the moment I'm using my holiday card image to my family and friends as a comparison medium for the glossy images. My "Celebration of Light, Momocerotis's Angels" interpretation of the Hubble image is on my home web page.

I hope the life that has come back into this group continues into the new year.

Cheers,

In the first blind test of the MIS WorkForce 1100 "EZ" against the Noritsu-Epson dye on Red River Metallic paper, the MIS EZ 1100 won.

This is a different mix than the old C88 mix.

The new WorkForce 1100 beta is using neutralized LK and PK. These, obviously, can have broader application.

I'm using R800Blue instead of Magenta in the toner mix. It'll take some fade testing to see if that holds down the tone shift. It should do well against an un-sprayed Noritsu-Epson dye print, but long term with a spray is uncertain and unnecessary for the markets I'm interested in - like cards.

So far, I'd say the MIS WorkForce 1100 is going to make a very inexpensive, easy to use matte and glossy printer that can handle 13" paper. Note that this $130 printers (on special), is made for fast business printing. In some modes it is slow. However, using the matte paper and best qualilty settigs appears to work for both matte and glossy paper with the use of ICCs made with QTR's Create ICC-RGB. The ICC approach gives a high bit depth path to the printer that automatically matches a calibrated monitor with respect to density distribution on the print.

This could be a viable option for MIS and the market. I'll continue to test it.

Re: WorkForce 1100 "EZ" -- UT14 v. HP Z3100 Gray

2011-01-12 by Paul

One of my options for an "EZ" solution for the 1100 was simply UT14 LC for the midtone (neutralized LK). So, I tried it, and it worked well.

I was then curious how the HP Z3100 gray would compare. I did not have any HP ink when the UT14 inkset was designed. So, from my end they were totally independent. It's interesting to see how close they ended up. See page 6 of http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/1100.pdf
