Epson driver not centering

Epson driver not centering

2011-01-28 by Richard Smallfield

Hello,
I've got an incredibly frustrating problem with the Epson driver on my 3800 ... and yes, I've searched the archives to no avail.

The print preview window shows about a quarter of the image appearing in the bottom right corner - the rest is off the page.

I've tried:
1. Ticking the "Borderless" box - this has fixed the problem in the past: the other day I ticked that box then looked at the preview and the whole picture was showing, so I went back and un-ticked it and it was centred as it should have been.
2. Reinstalling the driver.
3. Turning off the printer and computer and restarting everything.
4. Scratching my head.
5. Swearing.
6. Having lunch and then trying again.
7. Having a lie down and then trying again.
8. Standing on my head, reciting poetry and then trying again.

None of these techniques have worked.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Richard

Don't use Print preview - untick that box. Quite simple really ;)

Ah ha ... you mean that the fault is only with Print Preview, not with the actual final positioning of the print?

What with the price of materials I've always used the preview to check the print will be positioned correctly.

Many thanks, Bob,
Richard

The problem is not just the preview window - I did a print without the preview and only a quarter of the image appeared in the bottom right hand corner of the paper.

thanks,
Richard

I was perhaps a bit flippant in my reply. I've only used Epson's Print
Preview once or twice, but have read many posts on different lists advising
people to turn it off, as it can have strange effects. Apart from the color
differences, there are reports of crashes, printing won't start, printing
only goes so far and stops, borders not correct, etc. So it's worth a try in
your case.

What program are you printing from? I print to my 3800 from LightRoom these
days. It has its own preview which seems to work fine.

Another thought - if you are on a Mac, here are some thoughts on a similar
problem

If your are using a Mac, is it a problem with an Apple driver for the 3800,
rather than Epson's driver?

Hi Bob,
Windows Vista, Photoshop CS3.

I've gone back to QTR in the meantime. Funnily enough I only changed to ABW because I had a problem with QTR last year that I couldn't fathom.

Thanks for your suggestions,
Richard

Re: Epson driver not centering

Hello, Richard,
I have Epson 4880 and, I think, stumbled upon the same problem. I hope my discovery would work for your printer too. I was trying to print on roll paper with "centered" check mark used at Epson driver. Images stubbornly leaned to the edge of the roll only 1 cm away from the paper edge. I was going through the same stages as you (items 3 - 8 in your message) and even more. Afterwards I found what was the problem: I made mistake while creating a specific "size of paper" in the printer driver. When you are choosing "Roll" option, you are getting offered some standard paper sizes like A4, A3 etc., but you can select "User Defined" which I did. Then I made mistake: instead of putting width of roll as a horizontal paper size I put dimension of image plus some space for border. Driver refused to center my combination. The end of story: you need to choose size of you paper as parameters not size of your picture in the driver.
Hope this works in your case.
