My computer doesn't recognize my Epson 4800

My computer doesn't recognize my Epson 4800

2011-01-29 by Yaakov

Hi everyone.
I live in Jerusalem, and to get a techie to sort out my printer will
cost me a minimum of $240! ($80 travel from Tel Aviv, minimum $80 one
hour, and another $80 to get him back to Tel Aviv)
So before I invest that kind of money I thought I give a yell and see if
someone else has had this problem.
When a I plug the printer into the computer, I get the little UBS tune
going up, showing that it's recognized a new connection, but the
computer doesn't recognise the printer. The printer itself says "Ready."
I've had a couple of computer repair guys in, and they both don't know
what the problem is, so they assume it's the printer.
I'm using an USB connection, maybe it makes sense just to use the
firewire instead?
Any ideas what I can do?
many thanks!

Have you tired to re-boot the computer with the printer connected via the USB? Are you on windows or a mac?

Peace,
Ramon

What type of printer do you have? Many printer drivers require special procedure when you DO NOT CONNECT your printer first. You execute driver installation and connect printer to USB port ONLY when you are asked by software. My suggestion: delete this copy of printer from your system, go to the printer manufacturer's site and download latest driver for your printer model, disconnect your printer from computer, start driver installation and FOLLOW ON SCREEN INSTRUCTIONS. Connect your printer at appropriate time and installation of the driver will be completed successfully.

Tell me the result...
