Did Windex Kill the 1400?

Did Windex Kill the 1400?

2011-02-18 by Mike

I've had my 1400 with MIS supplied Eboni-6 carts since October. Last night I started having some banding. I had printed half a dozen good prints the night before. After a couple of cleaning cycles failed to solve the issue I tried Windex on a folded paper towel under the heads. At first only one or two grays printed so I increased the Windex-pad thickness and let it soak for bout 4 hours. There was lots of ink on the pad when I removed it. I got one very streaky, extremely light print, then nothing. No nozzles seem to be firing at all even after two cleaning cycles. I'm using the stock Epson driver on OSx 10.6 for what its worth.

Did I kill the printer? Right now I'm letting it sit while I'm at work.

Thanks,

Mike Durling

No. but that might of. Paper towels dissolve and leave fibers on head. Try again this time with no paper towels, just soak the cap sponge.

And, you might be sure the towels didn't suck all the ink from the carts. Pull one and see if it seems light. (chips would not show a change under these conditions.)

Mike ,
I doubt that Windex killed the printer that quickly.. but I will say that I believe that windex is not good for a printer.. Here's why ..over time it has a softening effect on many types of plastics.. Most formica counter tops that have been exposed to windex on a regular basis soften.. so it does have an effect on plastics at least of certain types over time.. This isn't meant to spook you as I'm sure a few treatments didn't do a thing and it probably is a good thing to get unclogged.. Try Simple Green it's far superior to windex for busting up dried inks..( This ones for Mark) :-))

I would trademark that name if I could so I could get some $ for every mention ;)

Well, that solved the mystery. I pulled the carts and they are all
empty. There didn't seem to be much ink on the towels but in any case I
won't be printing this weekend, at least not with Eboni

Thanks for all of the answers.
