A bit OT: Pointing Devices

A bit OT: Pointing Devices

2011-11-06 by Richard Smallfield

Hello,
having settled on a trackball for the last few years, I got a
Kensington Expert Mouse recently - but it appeared to be faulty, with
the left button either not clicking, or being sticky - dragging
instead of clicking.

So I got a replacement - same problem.

Has anyone else had this problem with the Kensington ball? Maybe
they've made a bad batch.

I guess I'll be asking for my money back ... but it's odd to have two
bad ones in a row, though I can't imagine how it could be the fault
of the computer. The laptop's left and right buttons work ok. But
strangely, the previous Logitech ball I was using had developed the
same fault, so I'm scratching my head as to what could be causing it,
if not a bad contact in the device.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks,
Richard

Have used a Kensington trackball for many years without issue. What OS
are you using and do you use Kensington's software, currently
Trackballball Works.

Cheers

Hi,
yes, I use the Kensington software; I'm on Windows Vista.

My Microsoft mouse works fine.

thanks,
Richard

Maybe re-installing the software would help. Like I said I have never
had a problem with my Kensington track balls.

Cheers

Hi,
thanks for the suggestion it might be the software: I uninstalled it and at present it's working ok again.

Did you say in a previous post that the mouse button was sticky. That has nothing to do with the software.
Maybe it is a bad batch. Kensington is pretty reliable though but you never know

It was sticky, which was why I'd not thought it could be software, but after uninstalling the software, it's surprisingly now working ... hopefully it will be ok now.

thanks,
Richard

That is indeed really strange. Glad it is working now..I was never fond of Vista. I really went from XP to 7. I am very pleased with 7. Fast and reliable...
