Epson 2200 corner ink smears

Epson 2200 corner ink smears

2012-01-06 by njfranknj

The upper side of Sparrowhawk 13x19" sheets almost always picks up a smear of black ink on the left rear corner of the trailing edge of the sheet. It is a thin paper and I normally use the lowest head setting as it feeds well from the rear slot.

The smear affects an area of about 1 square inch of the corner and is no problem with images that are smaller than about 16" wide, as I can cut that corner off, but when I have a custom-sized image that fills the frame with only my standard 1" margin, it can't be cut off.

It seems like that corner of the paper must be touching the underside of the head, which always picks up ink splash.

I'm in the process of cleaning up as much as I can: running cleaning carts, moist paper towels under the head and a general wiping of interior surfaces.

Any advice appreciated.

Hello:

I would gently apply some curl to the side that is problematic by gently rolling the paper along a tube with a piece of paper on top to protect it. You can do that at a 45 degree angle to focus on the corners so that they do not curl up. You can also increase the platen gap one number (maybe from 2 to 3).

Hope that helps,

Andrew
