Yeah... Got my new Sepia - Neutral Inks

Yeah... Got my new Sepia - Neutral Inks

2002-03-08 by elizabethsgallery

I'm thrilled that the vaccum filling of the virgin empty's and
installation went flawlessly on my 1160. I have severe microbanding
in my first test prints but I read from the archives that I need to
do my printhead alignment on the same weight stock and set the paper
thickness. The nozzle checks are perfect so this must be my only
recourse.

The other thing I tried was to get one shade warmer than the neutral
I placed two curve adjustment layers over my image both at 50%
opaque, One was the VMQW and the other was the VMNW and the tone was
wonderful! I found the VMQC curve to be awful taking away all
highlight and mid light tones. Now to start trialing some papers and
of course fix the microbanding.

QUESTION...
Can the cartridge be vaccuum filled again once it's been used or from
here out can I only use the bottom fill method?

QUESTION...
Has any experamented with papers that print nice but also deckle tear
nicely too?

I get a decent light tone by using the vmqnw curve with the yellow
slider cranked all the way to -25. I'll have to try the two different
curves at 50% each to see the difference. I use the MIS sepia/neutral
CIS setup. I don't like filling carts any more than I have to. At
first I had a lot of microbanding but it all went away after a while.
Been playing with some Arches watercolor papers, great for deckle
edges, but needs some more experimenting.

Once the cartridge has been installed in the printer the
seals on the bottom of the cartridge will be broken so the
vacuum method will not work, you can't get a vacuum the air
comes in the bottom of the cartridge.

Today, I tried Elizabeth's two curve adjustment layers at 50% each.
It didn't work very good on my 1160 setup. I did get a in-between
tone, but I also got some weird shadings, bordering on posterization.
Anybody else have luck with it? Next I'll try Paul Roark's method as
mentioned by someone here, (can't remember who)

Bruce, the method outlined by Elizabeth will not work reliably- look for my
recent post re: Paul's method of combining 2 flattened layers, each with
it's own VM curve. This will work best if 2 Layer sets are used, with
pass-through off.
